$1 Million Settlement

In 2018, Attorney Edwards won a $1 million settlement for a 19-year-old Virginia man who suffered a 15-foot fall in May 2016 that left him a quadriplegic. The man had visited his sister and descended an outside staircase at her apartment building. On his way down, he stopped to pet a neighbor’s dog and placed his hand on the handrail to steady himself. The handrail gave way, and the man fell to the ground, suffering grave injuries. Edwards brought a lawsuit on behalf of the man on the grounds that the handrail was in violation of the Virginia Maintenance Code and that the landlord had a common law duty to maintain the premises in a reasonably safe condition and to warn of any unsafe conditions.
